ClearEdge3D

EdgeWise MEP for Revit leverages the powerful feature extraction technology of EdgeWise to automatically extract pipe solids from laser scan point clouds. Once connected into pipe runs the model can be imported into Revit as pipe objects and easily assigned to pipe families. All intelligence extracted by EdgeWise, such as diameter, length, elbow bend radii and more, is also transferred into Revit.

Users are reporting up to an 85% savings over their normal modeling workflow.

Now, ClearEdge3D is developing another powerful tool featuring extraction technology for buildings . . . EdgeWise Building for Revit. 3DVDT was chosen to be one of the Beta Testers for this great new product. We have been pleasantly surprised how efficient and effective this application has proven to be, and already improvements and added features are in progress.

TOGETHER. PRESERVING THE FUTURE.

Today, El Camino Real de California and its sites are studied by 450,000 4th graders annually, but running parallel to the San Andreas Fault, the sites of El Camino Real de California are under threat of destruction.

With the loss of these sites, we not only lose a physical building, but also an important piece of California history. To preserve and share the history of the route with a wider audience, CyArk is launching a program to digitally preserve El Camino Real de California. The El Camino Real program will include 3D digital documentation, free public dissemination of digital data from the 21 missions, presidios, pueblos and other historic sites, and the development of content for conservation and education. Four of the twenty-one Missions have been digitally preserved to date. Next up . . . Mission Francisco de Solano (Mission Sonoma). Read More

As-Builts For Architects – An Innovative Approach

Shari Kamimori of 3D Virtual Design Technology with guest speaker GJ Harmina of Pacific HDS presented the latest in digital design innovation, Scan to BIM Technology, featuring one application of Scan to BIM technology that can be beneficial in documenting the as-built (existing) condition for retrofit, renovation or restoration projects.

The as-built documentation process is a time-consuming, tedious, sometimes dangerous, yet necessary step to creating the foundation for your renovation, restoration or retrofit project. We are all too familiar with the tape measure, camera and a lot of sketch paper being the conventional tools by which we document as-built structures. Often this process involves crawling, climbing and getting down-right dirty in order to reach the inconvenient places and the possibility of injury is not uncommon.

The speakers presented at CafèMac the Scan to BIM advantage to a curious audience of architects, designers, and contractors eager to learn about “An Innovative Approach”.  Read More

Scan to BIM Supports Sustainability

According to Green Building Education Services (gbes), existing buildings make up 99% of building stock. Instead of building a brand-new structure from the ground up, consider taking advantage of already existing structures. In dense urban areas, there may be plenty of opportunities to find a property that can be upgraded into a high-performance building. The costs of major renovation can be offset by reduced construction and material cost of new shell. The environment benefits through the reduction of raw materials needed for a brand-new building. Cities where the downtown is already built out, and old historic districts for example, offer many opportunities to take advantage of existing buildings.
Transient

We will scan your existing building with 3D Laser Scanning Technology and we will create a 3D Building Information Model directly from the scan data, to be used as the foundation for your renovation, retrofit or restoration project.   This process is faster, millimeter accurate and much safer than traditional methods of documenting as-built structures and their surroundings.
